Billings Small Businesses Tap Recognition Programs and Local Hubs for Growth

TransMar-Transitional Marketing received the 2025 Small Business of the Year award from the Billings Chamber of Commerce, becoming the first winner of the new category limited to firms with 15 or fewer employees.

More than 80 percent of the chamber's 1,100-plus member businesses meet the SBA definition of small, which covers operations with under 500 employees. That share creates steady demand for targeted programs that single out standout performers at the local level.

Recent Tradeshow and Weeklong Events Spotlight Winners

Stonefly Studio earned a Best in Show honorable mention at the 2025 Made in Montana Tradeshow. Montana Block, a family-owned Billings operation, took the Best in Show New Exhibitor honor at the same event. In 2024 Billings hosted the SBA's National Small Business Week, during which Yarn Bar received the Woman-Owned Business of the Year recognition and Graphic Finesse earned the Young Entrepreneur Award from the Montana SBDC.

These honors arrive through established channels run by the chamber and the state development center rather than one-off campaigns. The pattern shows how repeated events give small operators repeated chances to convert visibility into new contracts and partnerships.

Support Office Anchors Ongoing Access

The Big Sky Economic Development office at 201 N. Broadway functions as the regional hub for the Montana Small Business Development Center. Local firms use the location to obtain counseling on certification, marketing, and market expansion without traveling outside downtown Billings.

Chamber data already tracks the 80 percent small-business share among members.
