Venture Capital Fuels Billings Tech Meetup Expansion Along Montana Avenue
Venture dollars are flowing into Billings startup gatherings as local organizers scale events along Montana Avenue and 1st Avenue North.
How we reported this
Billings tech meetups pulled in $12.4 million in dedicated venture funding during the first half of 2026, with three separate event series reporting new backers this month.
The money arrives as founders seek tighter connections between weekly gatherings and follow-on capital rounds. Local organizers say the pattern mirrors earlier spikes seen in 2023 when seed checks followed attendance spikes at similar downtown sessions.
Venues and Programs Fueling the Pipeline
Meetups now rotate between the Billings Innovation Center on 27th Street and the renovated warehouse space operated by the Yellowstone Valley Incubator at the corner of 1st Avenue North and 24th Street. The incubator runs a monthly founders circle that pairs pitch slots with introductions to three local funds, while the Innovation Center hosts a twice-weekly demo night that logged 380 attendees on July 8.
Both sites sit inside the core tech corridor that stretches from the railroad tracks to the riverfront. Organizers credit the proximity for higher retention, noting that 62 percent of July attendees returned for at least one follow-up event within ten days.
Numbers Behind the Expansion
Internal tallies from the Billings Startup Alliance show average check sizes at post-event mixers rising from $180,000 in January to $410,000 by June. The alliance also recorded 1,150 unique RSVPs across its four flagship series last month, up 47 percent from the same period in 2025.
Founders planning to attend next week can register through the alliance portal by Friday evening. Slots at the July 17 session at the Innovation Center close once capacity hits 220, with overflow directed to the incubator space two blocks away.
